I Samuel 28:3-25
Samson
There came to the nameless wife of Manoah
In annunciation an angel who declared:
"Like Sarah who was barren, even so
shall you
Conceive a child; you also shall bear a
son."
Almost
every day at the Boston Lying-In
There
are births defying expectation, all
Medical
wisdom; almost daily a mother thinks
Her
child God-given, a miracle and a wonder.
And the angel said: "You must both
abstain from wine,
You and the child; from all contact with
the dead;
Nor let your hair be shorn, for he is God’s,
And he shall be a Nazarite from the womb."
In
the Hebrew shul at Lodz the little boys
Studied
the Torah, and let their sidelocks curl
And
sway to the rhythm of reading. They too
have been
Sacrificed,
like Nazarites before them.
